Taxes 2024 FAQS
My Mortgage Holder Pays my Taxes, Why Did You Send Me a Bill?
Your annual Village Tax amount should have reached you by mail already on a pink piece of paper for your filing purposes (Township taxes are printed on a Yellow Sheet of paper, and need to be paid at the Township Office). If your mortgage holder pays your taxes for you, they would have reached out to me to receive the amount, before you received your bill in the mail.
When are Taxes Due?
Tax bills are due by September 16, 2024 at 5pm. The Clerk will be in the office that day from 7am- 5pm accepting payment.
What Do I Need To Do, If My Payment Is Going To Be Late?
Once the bill goes delinquent you must inquire with the Antrim County Treasurer (231-533-8596) for the payoff amount. After September 16th, you can no longer submit payment to the Village, as they would have already settled with the County.
How Do I Pay My Taxes?
You can pay with cash or check and receive a paper receipt(made out to the Village of Central Lake) at the Village Office located at 2530 N. Main Street Central Lake, MI, across from the Blue Pelican. A drop box is available for your convenience. The drop box will have a final check on September 16th at 5pm to ensure settlement with the county.
You can pay with a check (made out to the Village of Central Lake) by mailing it to P.O. Box 368, Central Lake, MI 49622.
We do not accept debit or credit card payments including: in person, over the phone, or online.
Why Is There a Line Item Titled “Utility Bills” On My Tax Bill?
If you have a line item titled “Utility Bills”, then your delinquent utility billing were transferred onto your taxes based on our Ordinances found in Chapter 2. All of our ordinances can be found under the “About Tab”, then listed under “Ordinances”. If this is the case, I would suggest reaching out to your lender to see their policy on the matter.
I Have an Issue With My Tax Amount.
If you have an issue with your taxes, not associated with utility billing transfers, you will need to reach out to the assessor. Bob Englebrecht can be reached at the Township office at 231-544-6687 to make an appointment to see him.
